Sample Itinerary
(BASED ON OUR 2020 TOUR ROUTE)
DAY 1 - AMALFI
We will pick you up at 10am from Rome airport and start heading south. We have a pretty solid drive to the Amalfi coast so we will stop on the way for a panini and a coffee (café). Once we get to the Amalfi coast we will check into our hotel in the town of Amalfi, settle in, then head out on a short ride to clear the cobwebs.
After freshening up and catching up with what’s happening in the Giro, we’ll have dinner overlooking the beautiful coastline.
DAY 2 - AMALFI
We have a nice relaxing day ahead. We start with a breakfast with views out over the ocean. We will then get on the bikes and head north along the Amalfi coast for about 30km before stopping for a quick espresso over looking the Isle Capri near Sorrento. Our route then takes us back down the Amalfi coast where all those post card shots are taken and through Positano. After a couple of photo stops along the way, we’ll arrive back in Amalfi to head up the only tester for the day, a 5km climb to Ravello where we can enjoy lunch in the historic town. This ride is around 80km.
We can then spend the afternoon checking out the amazing town of Amalfi or catch a ferry into Positano, followed by another sensational dinner near the water.
DAY 3 - BARI
Today, another breakfast with a view, before we bid farewell to the Amalfi Coast and head on a 2hr drive south east to the town of Policoro, where we will start our ride for the day.
Today’s route is a 60-80km ride along the coast line at the "heel of the "boot". We will stop for lunch somewhere and get our first live taste of the Giro as the peloton flys past with around 50km to go. We then head to our evening’s accommodation in Bari. This historic town takes a few hours to explore, so take your time checking out the sights before dinner amongst in the cobbled streets.
DAY 4 - MATTINATTA
Today we will head north again, following the eastern coast line. We will ride part of today stage which includes a 7km climb, then roll back down onto the coast for lunch in time to see the race come through in it’s closing stages. This ride will be 60-80km including a bit of everything- coastal flat and climbing.
The views around Mattinata are incredible, and you’ll be able to soak them up during drinks before another stunning dinner to close out the day.
DAY 5 - PESCARA
It’s a rest day in the Giro D’Italia, but not for us - it’s actually our most challenging day. This cycling holiday can't be complete without one really solid challenge, and boy do we have a good one for you... the infamous Blockhaus!
This famous climb situated not far from the coastal town of Pescara in the Abruzzo region and is a regular in the Giro, but this year, we have it all to ourselves. This ride will be around 60km with most of it being uphill or down!
Tonight we will stay in Pescara and after todays challenge, it’s likely to be an evening around the pool or on the beach, enjoying a few drinks before dinner.
DAY 6 - PERUGIA
This morning we get a little sleep-in, then it’s breakfast, and riding out from the hotel. As somewhat of a recovery day after Blockhaus, we’ll have a 60-80km coastal ride, including a lunch stop by the ocean, before we catch the finish of today’s Giro D’Italia stage, which is sure to be an exciting sprint finish.
After touring the team buses and soaking up the atmosphere at the finish, we’re off to one of Gruppetto's favourite accommodation spots - Castello di Monterone in Perugia. Take a bit of time to check out this amazing castle, enjoy a spritzer and get ready for the sensational food the award-winning onsite restaurant has to offer.
DAY 7 - RIMINI
It’s another relaxing start to the morning which is a good thing because breakfast here is fantastic. Once we’re packed we’ll jump in the vans and drive to the coastal town of Fano. From there we ride to Rimini, 60km along the coast including a lunch stop by the water.
In Rimini we’ll check into our hotel and get ready for the race to come through. Rimini is a really cool tourist town and lucky for us, it won’t be packed full of tourists this time of year.
We’ll get the evening to enjoy this beach town, the streets, the shops and a nice final nights dinner with celebrations sure to go on late into the night.
DAY 8 - FAREWELLS
Our final morning on tour, and following breakfast, we’ll head to Venice airport for drop offs. If you’re staying on in Italy you can pick up your car or catch transport from there, or check in and board your flight home.
